Design: Brogliato & Traverso

Its very name evokes the spirit of great explorations and tales of adventure. Nautilus is a designer bookcase by Cattelan Italia, conceived as a treasure chest for your memories—a domestic stage where you can display cherished volumes, art catalogs, and memorabilia gathered from around the globe.

This design breaks the mold of the static wall-mounted bookcase, introducing absolute geometric versatility. The structure is based on a single steel element that can be arranged side-by-side or stacked as desired: positioned horizontally, it creates a sleek, low-profile unit, while a vertical orientation utilizes the room's height to accentuate the ceiling. However, the true aesthetic magic unfolds when the structure is placed in the center of the room. Acting as a double-sided room divider, its internal uprights—gracefully angled like sails unfurled in the wind—allow natural light to filter through with remarkable subtlety, creating a rhythmic flow in the space without ever making it feel heavy.

While traditional metal bookcases often rely on contrasting materials, Nautilus celebrates the pure essence of metal through sophisticated, high-tech metallic finishes (such as titanium, bronze, graphite, or pearl). Choosing a modular bookcase of this caliber lends the living area a luminous, sculptural quality, perfectly complementing a modern, refined, and deeply elegant interior.
